The Zeeland City Council has approved a three-year contract with Central Michigan University’s Clarke Historical Library to continue converting the Zeeland Record into a digital format.
The council earlier this month unanimously approved the contract, which will cover the 2025 through 2027 editions of The Record, as a continuing commitment on the part of Howard Miller Library and CMU to preserve the paper in digital form. The contract combines both microfilming and digitization service provisions, Library Director Amanda Hanson said.
The library will be billed no more than $1,300 annually for the digitization work. The project will be paid for out of the library’s endowment fund, Hanson said.
Anyone can access past issues of the Zeeland Record, from 1893 to 2024 through the Digital Michigan Newspapers website, managed by CMU, at DigMichNews.cmich.edu.
