Library Director Bill Lewis said new shelving units, new carpeting, new furniture and converting existing lighting to non-ballist LED lighting in the Children’s room will be highlights to the project. He said some other lights that were not functioning correctly will be fixed as well.
Lewis said the new LED lighting will provide brighter lighting in the Children’s Room.
He adds the layout in the Children’s Room will be adjusted as well. He said a second entrance to the Children’s Room will be opened up.
One item that will not be new is a spinner rack items are placed on, will remain in the Children’s Room.
Lewis said the cost of the project will be $27,000-$28,000. The project will be paid for with library funds generated from the library millage approved by voters.
Lewis reminds library patrons another enhancement now available to use is the Interlibrary Loan Program. The Interlibrary Loan Program allows patrons to borrow a book or item from another library in the state. When the item is returned, the local library mails the item back to the library it came from without cost to the patron.
“That was the last of the things that we promised from our millage. So we have accomplished everything we said we would do with our millage,” explained Lewis.
While the library will not reopen again until August 10, the movie in the park event August 8 will still be held, weather permitting.
The movie is Flight of the Navigator. Face painting will begin at 8:15 p.m. before the movie. The Mr. Bill puppet will also be at the movie in the park event to talk with the visitors.
