The Michigan Department of State Police announced the OK2SAY system reached a significant milestone with 10,777 tips received in 2025, the second-highest use volume of the tipline since the program began in 2014, according to its annual report.
OK2SAY is a confidential tipline meant to prevent bullying and school safety issues established after the Michigan Student Safety Act in 2013. The tipline also saw a 20% surge of tips in 2024.
However, 2025 was a record high volume year for use with 1,767 suicide threats reported, 1,576 bullying tips, 1,153 drug tips and 1,036 sexual assault tips submitted.
Following the tips, the state police reported intervening in 41 weapon-related incidents and 57 life-saving interventions in suicidal crises. The department also reported 220 contraband seizures and 445 formal student safety assessments conducted.
"We continue to see that OK2SAY serves an important need in our state, empowering students to take an active role in keeping their schools and communities safe,” MSP Director James Grady II said in a statement. "Every tip received shows our children have the courage and compassion to say something helpful when they suspect something harmful.”
Around 87% of the reports confirmed information in the tip and led to an investigation and 72% of respondents were unaware of the issue. Out of the logged tips, 8,242 were regarded as incidents.
In 2025, 5,538 incidents were forwarded to school officials and 1,405 to law enforcement. Parents were notified in 67.5% of the cases and 1,226 cases resulted in school counseling, according to outcome reports.
Behavioral threat and suicide assessments increased by 89% in 2025 compared to the year before. The program saw an overall increase in mental health tips with a decrease in bullying tips.
The program has received 72,496 tips since its creation in 2014.
