Amanda Ileana Hernandez, a 34-year-old resident of Lincoln Park, pleaded No Contest last Wednesday to Conspiracy to Commit Home Invasion, Conspiracy to Commit False Personation of Public Utility Worker, and Accessory After the Fact to a Felony for her role in the robbery and murder of Rochester Hills businessman Hussein "Sam" Murray in October 2024.
Hernandez’s husband, Carlos Hernandez, and another man, Joshua Zuazo, posed as DTE workers to gain entry into Murray’s home to rob it. During the robbery, they killed Murray and assaulted his wife. Both men were convicted of Felony Murder and Unlawful Imprisonment and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
Amanda Hernandez was subsequently charged for her role in planning and concealing the crime. Text messages show she was involved in preparing for the home invasion with the hope of using the stolen money to buy a home of their own.
“Our office remained committed to pursuing justice against everyone involved in Sam Murray’s murder,” said Oakland County Prosecutor Karen D. McDonald. “Amanda Hernandez’s plea does not involve a sentencing agreement from our office. Her plotting ultimately led to Sam Murray’s death. She will be held accountable for her actions, which will forever affect the Murray family.”
Assistant Prosecutor Andrew McGarrow is handling the People’s case against Amanda Hernandez. She is scheduled to be sentenced in Sixth Circuit Court on Aug. 12, 2026.
