Macomb County man pleads no contest to second-degree murder

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that 52-year-old Luke Svacha, of Center Line, pleaded no contest to charges stemming from the February 2025 shooting death of 24-year-old Jajuan Marls.

Lucido says Svacha shot and killed Marls at the Extended Stay America hotel in Sterling Heights.

On Monday, Svacha appeared before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Anthony Servitto, where he pleaded no contest to Second-Degree Murder and Felony Firearm.

As part of a sentencing agreement, Svacha will be sentenced to a minimum of 22 years in the Michigan Department of Corrections.

Svacha is scheduled to be sentenced on September 9.
