On July 27, Mark Fischer, 61, of Wellston, was sentenced Monday by Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Morgan Cole to a 12-month delayed sentence and ordered to pay $1.1 million in restitution to the Michigan Department of Treasury, announced Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel.
Fischer pled guilty to five felony counts of Failure to File Tax Return in June for failing to pay more than $2.5 million in sales tax collected through his propane company, Fischer LPG, Inc., from 2019 to 2023.
Fischer LPG, Inc. also pled guilty to five felony counts of Failure to File Tax Return.
Prior to sentencing, Fischer paid nearly $3 million to the Michigan Department of Treasury toward tax, penalty, and interest.
If he pays the additional $1.1 million ordered as restitution, Fischer will have paid Treasury a total of $4.1 million, and Fischer’s felony charges will be reduced to five misdemeanor counts of General Tax Violations.
