Man sentenced after plea to shooting in King of Budz Cannibis parking lot

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido says that Abel Rivard, 57, of Roseville, was sentenced this week after he pled no contest to charges of Assault with Intent to Murder and Felony Firearm in May 2026.

Over the objection of Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Carrie Seward, who argued that the court should impose a sentence within the applicable sentencing guidelines range of 81 to 135 months, Macomb County Circuit Court Judge James Maceroni sentenced Rivard to 2 to 30 years for Assault with Intent to Murder, followed by the mandatory consecutive 2-year sentence for Felony Firearm.

The court imposed the sentence pursuant to a Cobbs agreement, which is a sentencing agreement between the judge and the defendant.

“When someone chooses to use a firearm against another person, they place lives at risk and must be held accountable. My office remains committed to protecting the people of Macomb County by aggressively prosecuting violent offenders,” said Lucido.

The charges against Rivard stem from May 23, 2025, when he instigated an argument with Martin Robinson of Clinton Township in the parking lot of the King of Budz Cannabis dispensary in Roseville.

Each man went into the dispensary where the argument continued. When Rivard and Robinson returned to the parking lot, Rivard pulled a gun from his waistband and Robinson retreated. As Robinson was returning to his car, Rivard shot him. Robinson survived the shooting.
