The Alternative Dispute Resolution Section of the State Bar of Michigan will host its second annual Family Mediation Conference virtually? on Thursday Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
?T?he online conference will include four hours of advanced mediation training featuring Michigan practitioners and experts.

• Zena Zumeta, “Working with Attorneys in Family Mediation”
• Marya Kolman, “Presenting the Newly Revised Model Standards for Family and Divorce Mediation”
• Shawndrica Simmons, “Beyond the Mediation Room: Using Mediation Skills to Manage High-Conflict Parents in Supervised Parenting Time Cases”

Juvenile competency focus
of MJI webinar
The Michigan Judicial Institute will present “Understanding Juvenile Competency in Michigan” on Friday, Aug. 28, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
This webinar will provide an overview of juvenile competency for youth involved in the juvenile justice system, including dual wards involved in both the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.
Presenters will draw on their professional experience conducting juvenile competency evaluations to discuss common challenges, practical applications, and the implications of these evaluations for practice.

Attorneys applauded for
pro bono work
The State Bar of Michigan recently released its 2026 A Lawyer Helps Pro Bono Honor Roll in celebration of the attorneys and legal organizations helping to expand access to justice across Michigan.
More than 1,000 Michigan attorneys reported 36,416 hours of pro bono legal services for the 2026 Honor Roll, which recognizes service hours reported from 2025.
The honor roll recognizes individual attorneys, law firms and corporations that support access-to-justice efforts by providing pro bono legal services to low-income individuals and families throughout Michigan.
Attorneys are recognized in the honor roll if they report 30, 50, or 100+ hours of qualifying pro bono legal services.
