The Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) invites Michiganders to help shape the future of housing in Michigan by participating in a new public survey.
Available now, the survey marks the first statewide public engagement effort in the development of Michigan’s next housing plan. SHP 2.0 will be a collaborative blueprint that will build on the progress of the state’s first housing plan released in 2022.
All are encouraged to share experiences, concerns, and ideas about housing in Michigan. Public input will play a central role in developing the new plan and help inform goals and strategies for the years ahead.
“Housing is foundational to strong families, vibrant communities, and a thriving economy, which is why it’s so important that Michigan’s next Statewide Housing Plan reflects the voices and experiences of people across our state,” said Amy Hovey, MSHDA chief executive officer and executive director.
While SHP 2.0 will be a Michigan plan, MSHDA has contracted with ICF, a nationally recognized firm specializing in housing strategy, community engagement, and data-driven planning, to support outreach, input and development of the plan.
Current and next steps include:
• Statewide and regional data analysis, listening sessions, and community engagement activities
• Collaboration with local governments, Tribal partners, housing providers, and advocacy organizations
• Identification of priorities and strategies to guide investment and action
Additional opportunities for public and partner engagement will include listening sessions and regional engagement events.
