Bronson Assistant City Manager Patrick Bird is set to become Litchfield’s new city manager.
Bird inked the contract late last week. His first day at Litchfield will be Monday, August 31. He replaces Nicole Benson, who took a job in the private sector.
Lauren Skelly, treasurer/finance director, and council president Jessica Bills conducted the contract negotiations. The contract is for two years. with a salary of $78,000.
After accepting the job, Bird said in a phone interview, “I’m excited about the opportunity to be the new city manager of Litchfield. I can’t wait to get started working with the staff and getting to know the community.”
The community is one reason Bird took the position.
“I made a couple of visits to Litchfield before applying for the job, and I was impressed with the people I met and how close-knit the community is. I can be very accessible in that environment. It’s a perfect fit for me personally and professionally.”
Bird doesn’t believe it will be a difficult transition from his present duties to overseeing Litchfield.
I don’t see any big differences. My priority is to understand the community needs and to be involved. I believe good service is paramount and that’s what residents can expect from me.” According to his resume, Bird’s duties at Bronson include “serving as the City Manager’s principal advisor in the administration of municipal operations, providing leadership in budgeting, capital improvement planning, infrastructure, economic development, grant administration and strategic initiatives. Coordinate cross-departmental initiatives and work collaboratively with elected officials, staff, consultants and partners to implement the City’s strategic priorities.”
He is a graduate of California State University in Sacramento, California.
