Two first place finishers
for cross country team
Galesburg-Augusta sophomore Sophia Dohm and senior Nick Stevens both earned first place finishes at the Vanwinkle Memorial Community 5K and Magi Cross Country kickoff at Colon August 22.
Dohm finished with a time of 26:06.00 and Stevens posted a time of 21:38.00.
The G-A men had three runners finish in the top 10.
Ashton Dingee finished second with a time of 21:52.00 and Cameron Kuhse finished 10th with a time of 28:36.00.
Both G-A teams did not have enough runners to score as a team in the.
There were a total of just four runners competing in the womens race with Athens (1) and Colon (2) also participating.
Colon and Athens also participated in the mens race with Colon winning the event with 15 points on the strength of occupying the third through sixth places and a ninth place finish.

While the Galesburg-Augusta varsity volleyball team did not win a match at the Vicksburg Tournament August 19, the team is using the experience as a good learning experience moving forward.
G-A dropped both sets to Niles (22-25, 11-25) and St. Joseph (12-25, 22-25). The team then won one out of three sets against Thornapple (25-16, 21-25, 11-15) and South Haven (23-25, 25-19, 9-15).
“We did learn a lot that will help us with the rest of the season. It was nice to get in and iron out some things early. We did have some big competition to start the day. It was fun watching the girls compete against those bigger schools,” said G-A coach Jonica Klimp.
Lily Gilbert totaled 25 kills and 37 digs in the tournament, Ellesa Callender had seven aces and three blocks, and Lexi Coburn totaled 54 assists.

last year’s playoff appearance

Galesburg-Augusta enjoyed the school district’s first playoff appearance since 1997 (all schools qualified for the playoffs in the covid year 2020) last year and that injected a whole lot of energy entering the new season.
Because it had been so long since G-A qualified for the playoffs in a season when a full schedule was played, and the Rams went into the 2025 season with a lot of promise and talent, Hadley felt making the playoffs had to be a main goal last year.
Now the team can expand on its goals.
“I thought it was disingenuous to talk about State Championships when you haven’t made the playoffs in 28 years. Now that we’ve done that we can start talking about other goals.
That list includes, becoming a perennial playoff team, winning the conference, hosting a playoff game, winning a playoff game, winning a district championship and on and on,” observed the Ram coach, who is entering his sixth season as G-A’s head varsity football coach.
Eight starters and 10 returners overall from last year’s squad that finished 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the SAC Valley Division return.
The returning starters include senior running back and defensive back Gregory Buckner, senior quarterback and defensive back Patrick Armock, senior offensive lineman and defensive end Tristan Jackson, senior offensive and defensive lineman Milo Schwendinger, senior running back and defensive linebacker Dominic Corsi, senior running back and linebacker Giovanni Evans, senior running back and linebacker Colton Robertson, and junior tight end and defensive end Cayden Allie.
The other returners are senior offensive and defensive lineman Brady Towery, and senior wide receiver and defensive back Tyler Evans.
Armock is coming off an impressive junior season as the starting quarterback when he completed 60-of-111 passes for 1241 yards and 10 touchdowns. He rushed for an additional 203 yards on 56 carries.
Evans added 642 yards on 111 carries. He also caught 17 passes for 430 yards.
Buckner ran for 325 yards on 75 carries.
Cayden Allie caught nine passes for 147 yards.
Corsi is coming off a 2025 season when he led the Rams in tackles with 96.
Hadley is also excited about the newly formed conference the Rams play in and the schedule.
G-A merged with other 11-man Southwest Michigan football schools. The schools were divided into two divisions based on school size and G-A will play in the Southwest 10 Division.
G-A will only play two teams the Rams faced last year - Cassopolis and Saugatuck.
“I like the new arrangement. Our schedule is almost exclusively schools of a very similar size as us,” said Hadley.
The G-A coach said based on the success Decatur and Centreville have had in the playoffs recently, he feels those two teams will be very competitive in the conference.
Hadley feels a strength of this year’s team will be its overall quickness, which he feels is “far and away better than the previous season.”
The sixth year G-A head coach said despite having only 19 players out for the varsity, his team will have a surprising amount of depth.
“Almost all of our kids are capable of playing at multiple positions. This will help us avoid some of the pitfalls injuries have caused us in previous years. We also have a lot of talented kids on the JV team that we will be able to utilize via the 5th quarter rule,” observed Hadley.
