The Oakland County Bar Association will present a webinar on “Diminished Capacity in Michigan: Understanding the Michigan Supreme Court’s New Framework” Wednesday, September 30, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
A recent Michigan Supreme Court decision has significantly changed the law regarding mental illness and intellectual disability as they relate to criminal liability. This program will examine the court's recognition of a diminished capacity defense for specific intent crimes, the legal standards established by the decision, and the practical implications for criminal practitioners.
Attendees will gain an understanding of how this ruling alters prior law and what it means for future criminal cases involving mental health issues.
