State Bar offers new Evidence 101 guidebook
The State Bar of Michigan is offering the guidebook “Evidence 101: Quick Reference Guide for Michigan Attorneys” to help attorneys navigate common evidentiary issues.
The guidebook is based on the current Michigan Rules of Evidence and provides practical advice relevance, foundation, authentication, hearsay, witness examination, objections, impeachment, expert testimony.
It also provides an admissibility roadmap, pre-court evidence checklist, sample courtroom language, defines common terms, outlines the roles and responsibilities of attorneys (with citations), and shares potential impeachment tools.
The guidebook is offered through the State Bar of Michigan’s Practice Management Resource Center.

Damon J. Keith Center launches strategic plan
The Damon J. Keith Center for Civil Rights at Wayne State University Law School recently released a five-year strategic plan charting a course for democracy and the law, rooted in the people of Detroit.
The Center will pursue a vision in which Detroit residents hold real power over the decisions that shape their communities.
The plan organizes the Center’s work around three pillars: reshaping local democracy so that residents themselves exercise the right to govern; building an ecosystem of lawyers and legal workers to support the movement for racial and social justice; and activating the Center’s archival collection of African American legal history as a living resource for the present.
