Mount Clemens man allegedly stomps kitten to death

Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido has announced that 33-year-old Marcus Winfrey, of Mount Clemens, was arraigned on a charge of first-degree animal torture after he allegedly stomped on and killed a kitten.

It is alleged that on Wednesday, Sept. 2, Winfrey was sleeping on the steps of First United Methodist Church, in Mount Clemens, when he awoke agitated and began swearing at a woman who was also resting on the steps.

It is further alleged that he intentionally stomped on the head of the woman’s gray and white female kitten named Asia, killing it.

Two days later, Winfrey was arraigned before Magistrate Ryan Zemke in the 41B District Court in Clinton Township.

The charge is a felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison. He also has a Habitual Offender – Second Offense Notice, which is an aggravating sentencing factor.

Zemke set Winfrey’s bond at $50,000 cash/surety/10%. He remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail.
