The Oakland County Bar Association will present a webinar on “Crimigration: How Criminal Convictions Affect Immigration Status” Tuesday, November 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Criminal charges can have life-altering immigration consequences for noncitizen clients, often extending far beyond the criminal sentence itself. This Zoom seminar explores how common Michigan offenses may affect immigration status, including deportability, inadmissibility, and eligibility for immigration benefits.
Participants will learn about defense counsel's obligations under Padilla v. Kentucky, effective plea-bargaining strategies to minimize immigration consequences, and practical approaches for collaborating with immigration counsel to protect clients throughout the criminal process. Speaking at the webinar will be Edward Bajoka of Bajoka Law Group PLLC.
Credit has been approved with the OCBA for 1.5 Criminal credits.
Cost for the webinar is $45 for OCBA members; $30 for OCBA new lawyers (85191+), paralegals, students, and admin assistants; and $55 for non-members. Oakland County appointed counsel can attend for free.
