Professor featured at Animal Law Section lecture

The Animal Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present “Cats, Cows, & State Constitutions” featuring retired Professor David Favre on Thursday, October 29, from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Castle Boardroom (Room 343) at Michigan State University College of Law, 648 N. Shaw Lane in East Lansing, and virtually via Zoom.

When Favre retired, the Animal Law Section established a lecture series in his honor, and he graciously agreed to deliver the inaugural lecture.  Favre will explore the final stage in the formal development of Animal Rights: amending state constitutions to recognize the presence of animals within the legal system. This development is governed more by politics than by ethics or legal analysis. What should the goals be? What language would be most effective? And how might constitutional change happen?

The free lecture is open to the public. To register, visit https://connect.michbar.org/animallaw/home.
