Senior Neighbors, Inc., a non-profit agency serving the needs of older adults in Kent County, honored attorney Pat White of Varnum LLP on Tuesday, November 1, at their ninth annual dinner and fundraiser, Twilight Shines. The honorees will receive Twilight Shining Star Awards for their giving spirit and community leadership. Past honorees include John Canepa, Don Maine, Don and Nancy Lubbers, David and Carol Van Andel, Chuck and Stella Royce, and Ralph Hauenstein.
“Pat White has been a long-time supporter of Senior Neighbors and the community; serving Senior Neighbors as past Board Chair, long-time board member, advisor, and close friend. In his leadership role on the board, he provided invaluable wisdom and excellent judgment on a variety of important issues” said Senior Neighbors President Bob Barnes. “While Pat has stepped down from the Board, he continues to volunteer his skills and experience on the Personnel Committee.”
The gala’s Master of Ceremonies was the Honorable Sara Smolenski, Chief Judge of the 63rd District Court. The evening, which included a cocktail hour, dinner, and a program, benefited Senior Neighbors and helped raise money and awareness for the seniors they serve.
“Besides its financial donations to Senior Neighbors, Varnum’s commitment to volunteer service has made an immeasurable impact not only on Senior Neighbors but also on numerous other non-profit organizations in our community,” said Barnes. “We are delighted to honor Pat White and Varnum LLP with our Twilight Shining Star Award.”
Held at Watermark Country Club, the Twilight Shines gala drew more than 275 guests, John Patrick White is a partner in Varnum's Labor and Employment group, where he represents employers on the full spectrum of civil rights issues. He has particular experience representing school districts, colleges, and universities. Pat is recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® and was named Grand Rapids Employment Law "Lawyer of the Year" for several years. He is rated AV® Preeminent™ by Martindale-Hubbell.
Since 1972, Senior Neighbors, a non-profit agency focused on the mission of Enhancing the Lives of Seniors, has provided essential services for independent living. Senior Neighbors annually serves more than 4,000 seniors age 60 or older in Kent County. The organization meets seniors where they are - physically, mentally, emotionally, and socially. Senior Neighbors strives to help seniors stay healthy and independent in their own homes as long as possible. Services include transportation, prescription assistance, home repair and assistance, congregate meals, case management assistance, and Senior Center activities.
Senior Neighbors operates five Senior Centers throughout Kent County which serve low-cost, nutritious meals in a friendly atmosphere and offer a variety of different programs such as fitness classes, educational opportunities, and much more.
