Lawyer accused of conspiring to get witness to lie
DETROIT (AP) -- A Detroit attorney was charged Monday with perjury and other crimes by prosecutors who say he conspired to get a witness to lie during a murder trial.
David Dunn, 42, was arrested on the day his client's first-degree murder trial was to start in Wayne County Circuit Court.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit perjury in a capital trial, two counts of witness interference, two counts of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury and two counts of solicitation to commit a felony, the Wayne County prosecutor's office said.
His client, Andre Collins, 22, also was charged with conspiracy to commit perjury in a capital trial.
"I categorically deny these allegations," the Detroit Free Press reported Dunn as saying.
Dunn was escorted to a lockup area behind Presiding Judge Timothy Kenny's courtroom Monday. Kenny adjourned Collins' murder trial until Friday.
Dunn and Collins were expected to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in 36th District Court.
"Mr. Dunn's alleged behavior is a poison arrow to the heart of the criminal justice system," Prosecutor Kym Worthy said. "I cannot even begin to express how disappointed I am by his alleged actions."
A message seeking additional comment on Dunn's behalf was left Monday morning at his office by The Associated Press.
