Nominations sought for new Wayne Law Alumni Wall of Fame Award
Wayne State University Law School is creating an Alumni Wall of Fame Award, and nominations for the initial honorees are being sought.
The purpose of the Wayne Law Alumni Wall of Fame Award is to acknowledge graduates and former faculty members whose extraordinary professional success and contributions, profound positive influence on Wayne Law, and high degree of character and integrity are recognized by their peers.
The Alumni Wall of Fame is the highest award presented by the law school, and the distinction will be awarded with care and consideration to alumni who graduated no less than 10 years prior to their consideration or to former faculty who taught at Wayne Law for at least 20 years.
Nominations will be accepted until Saturday, Oct. 31, for the first awards, which will be given in spring 2016 at the annual Treasure of Detroit event. Complete guidelines, criteria and an online form to make a nomination are available at law.wayne.edu/walloffame.
The selection committee for the awards will comprise the chair of Wayne Law's Board of Visitors Executive Committee, an appointed member of the Board of Visitors, the dean, a senior faculty member and the law school's development director.
Among the guidelines and criteria are:
-Candidates cannot at the time of nomination or selection be the holder of an elected political office.
-No more than three individuals will be inducted annually.
-Nominees can be living or posthumous. No more than one deceased nominee will be inducted in any one year.
-Once nominated, an individual will remain available for consideration in subsequent years.
-Evidence for meeting the criteria can come from detailed information about the candidate's credentials and achievements, the impact and implications of those accomplishments, public awards and honors, and outside sources such as published articles and previously aired video or audio recordings.
