Man sentenced in slaying, sexual assault of Detroit girl
DETROIT (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison in connection with the slaying and sexual assault of a teenage girl in Detroit.
The Detroit News recently reported that Darian Winfield was sentenced after last month's conviction on charges of first-degree murder, second-degree criminal sexual conduct and home invasion. Winfield previously said in video statements to police that he entered the 17-year-old girl's bedroom on Jan. 6 and assaulted and beat her.
The girl died five days later of head injuries.
Winfield also is charged in two other cases that include charges of assault with intent to murder. Authorities say one involved a woman who was stabbed Dec. 30 in her Detroit home, and another involved an attack on a woman Dec. 15 in Grosse Pointe Park.
