'PFAS Litigation' examined in OCBA seminar January 18

The Oakland County Bar Association's Energy, Sustainability and Environmental Law Committee will present "PFAS Litigation: Where We've Been and Where We're Going" on Wednesday, January 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the OCBA office with speakers presenting on Zoom, 1760 South Telegraph Road, Suite 100, in Bloomfield Hills.

Perfluoroalkyl and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS) are a large, complex group of manufactured chemicals that are ingredients in various everyday products. For example, they are used to keep food from sticking to packaging or cookware, make clothes and carpets resistant to stains, and create firefighting foam that is more effective. PFAS are used in industries such as aerospace, automotive, construction, and electronics.

This seminar will focus onPFAS litigation and forward-looking policy. The major history of PFAS and objectives for PFAS regulators in Michigan and nationwide will be discussed as well. Speaker Robert Bilott, of Taft, Stettinius, & Hollister LLP, brought a benchmark class action lawsuit against DuPont on behalf of plaintiffs from Parkersburg, West Virginia and authored "Exposure," the basis for the movie "Dark Waters." Also speaking at the program will be attorney Tony Spaniola of Great Lakes PFAS Action Network.
