Wayne Law to host 14th annual Mark Weiss Day at Comerica Park


Join Wayne Law for a picnic and baseball in celebration of the 14th annual Mark Weiss Day at Comerica Park on Friday, August 5. This year’s game pits the Detroit Tigers against the New York Mets. The picnic starts at 5:30 p.m. on Party Deck #2, and the game begins at 7:10 p.m. The actual cost for the picnic and ticket to the game is $52. A minimum of $125 for each ticket is requested. The remaining $73 will be a tax deductible gift to the Mark Weiss Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship was established as a joint project of Wayne Law and the Michigan Association for Justice, formerly known as the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association.

Tickets purchased within a week of the game must be personally picked from the Office of Special Events and Services at Wayne State University in the AAB building at 5700 Cass Avenue, Suite 4300 in Detroit. Detroit Mercy Law  to celebrate 104th Annual Red Mass


University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will host its104th annual Red Mass at noon on Tuesday, September 20 at Saints Peter and Paul Jesuit Church, 629 E. Jefferson Avenue in downtown Detroit. The church is immediately adjacent to the School of Law Campus. The Red Mass is an occasion for judges, attorneys, and officials of all faiths to pray together for guidance at the beginning of the new judicial term and join in the Renewal of the Lawyer’s Oath of Commitment. The Oath is recited by all new lawyers in the State of Michigan as a mandatory part of swearing-in ceremonies. Renewal of the Oath is a voluntary means of reaffirming the pledge made at the onset of a lawyer’s career. This year, it will be led by the Hon. Victoria A. Roberts. Judge Roberts was appointed by President Bill Clinton in June 1998 to serve as a U.S. District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

The celebrant of the mass will be Rev. Fred Kammer, S.J., J.D. Fr. Kammer is a priest, attorney, and a member of the Southern Province of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). He has been director of the Jesuit Social Research Institute at Loyola University New Orleans since 2009. Fr. Kammer received a Bachelor of Arts from Spring Hill College, a Juris Doctor from Yale University, and a Master of Divinity from Loyola University Chicago.
