Clinical Professor Mira Edmonds Joins Michigan Law Faculty
Mira Edmonds, whose teaching and research interests include sentencing law and policy, prisoner reentry, and the collateral consequences of conviction, has joined Michigan Law as a clinical assistant professor of law. She will teach in the Pediatric Advocacy Clinic (PAC) and the Civil-Criminal Litigation Clinic (CCLC).
Edmonds joins the Law School after living in Shanghai for four years, where she worked on environmental initiatives and taught at the East China University of Politics and Law. In addition to her criminal justice work, Edmonds focuses on the affordable housing crisis, tenants' rights, and approaches to homelessness prevention and alleviation. She is interested in practicing holistic advocacy and community lawyering.
"I am beyond excited to join Michigan Law's impressive clinical faculty and contribute to developing the next generation of conscientious and competent lawyers," Edmonds said. "My personal interests span criminal and civil practice areas, so I feel privileged to have the opportunity to supervise students working on a wide variety of legal issues in both the CCLC and PAC."
Edmonds earned her JD from Harvard Law School and her BA, magna cum laude, from Brown University. After law school, she served as a trial attorney in the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society in Manhattan for several years. She subsequently clerked for The Hon. Shira A. Scheindlin of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York and The Hon. Ellen Segal Huvelle of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. She also was a Visiting Associate Professor of Clinical Law and Friedman Fellow in the Prisoner & Reentry Clinic (formerly the Neighborhood Law & Policy Clinic) at The George Washington University Law School.

Clark Hill CEO to receive Honorary Degree from the University of Kent
Clark Hill Chief Executive Officer, John J. Hern, Jr. is one of four University of Kent alumni set to receive honorary degrees during the institution's congregation ceremonies at Rochester and Canterbury Cathedrals this July.
Hern is the former President of the University of Kent in America. He will receive an honorary Doctor of the University degree in recognition of his work as President of the University of Kent in America.
Hern assumed the role of Clark Hill CEO in 2002 and has since overseen the explosive growth of the firm including several combinations. In addition to his leadership role, Hern's legal practice involves advising corporations of all sizes, public and private, on a wide range of issues such as incorporation, financing, leasing, contracting, mergers, acquisitions, and leveraged buyouts. He has been involved in multi-million dollar corporate mergers and acquisitions with manufacturing, service and financial organizations.
