American Constitution Society to host criminal justice reform event with Val Newman Nov. 12


The American Constitution Society lawyer chapter and student chapter are hosting a criminal justice reform event from 1-2 p.m. Tuesday, Novem­ber 12 in Room 335 of the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, 651 E. Jefferson Ave. in Detroit. The event will be highlighting insight from a recent exoneree, with Val Newman, Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office, Conviction Integrity Unit. In addition, criminal justice reform as well as the Central Park Five will be discussed. Lunch will be provided.

 

Barbara McQuade and Dana Nessel to be on Preet Bharara podcast
 

Barbara McQuade, former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, will be appearing along with Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel live on “Stay Tuned with Preet” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, November 12 at Royal Oak Music Theatre, 318 W. 4th St. in Royal Oak. Preet Bharara served as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York from 2009 to 2017. Now a Distinguished Scholar-in-Residence on the faculty of NYU School of Law, Bharara hosts “Stay Tuned with Preet,” a podcast that focuses on issues of justice and fairness. DBA?to host 15th Annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award Gala Nov. 14
 

Join the Detroit Bar Association in honoring Hon. Denise Page Hood, chief judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, at the 15th Annual Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award Gala. It will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, November 14 at the Detroit Yacht Club, 1 Riverbank Dr. in Detroit.

More than 400 attendees are expected to gather for an evening of networking, food and celebrating with Judge Hood. Presenters include United States District Judge Paul D. Borman, United States Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Stafford, Wayne County Circuit Judge (retired) Pamela R. Harwood, and Wayne County Circuit Judge Noah P. Hood. Archer Award winners all have one thing in common – each is an attorney or jurist who exemplifies the ideal of the law as public service.
