Politics of employment law opic of March 9 program


“The Politics of Employment Law: Are Employees Protected for Political Views and Speech?” will serve as the topic of a Tuesday, March 9 seminar offered by the Oakland County Bar Association.

Tony Paris, lead attorney for the Maurice and Jane Sugar Law Center for Economics and Social Justice, will be the keynote speaker at the conference.

“The OCBA Employment Law Committee presents this hot topic session,” said a spokesperson for the OCBA. “Employment attorneys and lawyers facing these issues among their own staff will learn whether speech – like social media posts – is protected and what types of adverse employment actions may be taken against employees for political speech or political viewpoints.”

Bench/Bar Conference  scheduled March 19


The biennial Circuit-Probate Court Bench/Bar Conference will take place in the virtual realm on Friday, March 19 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The Conference “provides judges and attorneys the opportunity to interact outside the courtroom in an informal, solution-oriented environment,” according to a spokesperson for the Oakland County Bar Association, sponsor of the event. “Gain valuable insights to enhance your legal practice and join us as we build congeniality between the bench and the bar.”

MSU alum earns promotion  in Whitmer Administration


Rachel Plawecki has been promoted to serve as director of Constituent Services for the office of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, it was announced this week.

Plawecki, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s degree from Yale School of Environment, previously served as Deputy Director of Correspondence. Before her time at Gov.
Whitmer’s office, she served as deputy legislative director for former House Democratic Leader Christine Grieg and legislative director for State Representative Darrin Camilleri.

Plawecki is the daughter of Judge Mark Plawecki of the 20th District Court in Dearborn Heights and the late Julie Plawecki, a former State Representative.
