State judiciary to celebrate Constitution Day
Judges across Michigan will celebrate Constitution Day today in recognition of the date the historic document was signed in 1787. In addition, a new three-minute video and discussion guide about "We the People" is posted on the Michigan Supreme Court Website.
A few activities include:
- Eastern Upper Peninsula students will hear from Justice McCormack, area judges and other civic leaders about the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights and participate in small group discussions at the Chippewa County Courthouse from 9 11:15 a.m. and again from Noon - 2:15 p.m., September 17. - Justice Bridget M. McCormack will present "The Importance of Youth Getting Involved in Civics" during an evening event at Lake Superior State University Arts Center at 7 p.m., September 17. Free and open to the public. Contact Melanie Greenfield greenf20@anr.msu.edu.
- Court of Appeals Judge Christopher Murray will deliver comments at Monroe Community College Theater, 1555 S. Raisinville Rd. at 7 p.m., September 17. Following Judge Murray's comments, students from multiple campus groups will perform vignettes highlighting current constitutional issues. - Macomb County Bar Association - "Debate on the Meaning and Interpretation of the United States Constitution" with Hon. Michael Warren, Oakland County Judge and co-founder of Patriot Week; Moderator Jocelyn Benson, Wayne State Law School Dean; and Robert Sedler, Wayne State Law School Constitutional Law Professor 1:30 3 p.m., Lorenzo Cultural Center Macomb Community College Center Campus, 44575 Garfield Road, Clinton Township.
