ABA, Duke Law to convene programs in 13 U.S. cities

The American Bar Association Section of Litigation and Duke Law School Center for Judicial Studies will jointly conduct a 13-city road show addressing key amendments to the federal discovery and case management rules.  “Reinventing Case Management and Discovery Under the 2015 Civil Rules Amendments,” focuses on changes scheduled to take effect Dec. 1, which are intended to manage litigation more efficiently and reduce the costs and delays of discovery.

The tour will kick off on Nov.10 in New York and include stops in:

Aimed at judges, their law clerks and attorneys, the programs feature national experts who will provide an overview of the amendments, followed by candid and interactive discussions among local judges, magistrate judges, and practitioners from both the plaintiffs and defense bar, who will examine the implications for civil discovery and case management.

The programs will be moderated by Lee Rosenthal, U.S. District judge for the Southern District of Texas and former chair of the Judicial Conference Advisory Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure; and Steven Gensler, former Civil Rules Committee member and professor at the University of Oklahoma School of Law. The take-away for attendees is a toolbox of techniques for putting the amendments into practice through case management techniques to make discovery more proportional, less expensive and more effective.

The programs are free for federal judges, magistrate judges and their law clerks; $100 for the general public; $60 for ABA Section of Litigation members and Duke Law School alumni; and $25 for government and public service lawyers.
