Deal ironed out in lawsuit filed over shooting of dog

FLINT (AP) — A $40,000 settlement has been reached in a federal lawsuit after a state corrections agent shot a dog while looking for a fugitive at the wrong house in Flint.

The Flint Journal reports attorney Christopher Olson said recently a settlement had been reached in the lawsuit stemming from a 2014 incident in which the 15-year-old dog was shot in the head.

Olson said the dog had multiple surgeries and is still alive.

State Department of Corrections spokesman Chris Gautz says both parties have agreed to the settlement’s terms, but that it hasn’t been signed.

He said there wasn’t a finding of improper conduct by the agent.
