State troopers to assist with security at GOP convention

LANSING (AP) — More than 100 state troopers from Michigan are expected to assist with security for the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

TV stations WOOD and WLNS report the officers were requested under an agreement that allows states to ask for help from other states.

Plans call for the State Police contingent to leave Michigan on July 16 and spend seven days in Cleveland.

Troopers are expected to help with security and crowd management outside the convention and some will be on motorcycles for escorting vehicles.
