Thomas M. Schehr has been named director of the Dykema’s Financial Industry Group, a multi-disciplinary group bringing together Dykema lawyers from all regions of the country in the areas of litigation (commercial as well as consumer financial services), lending and corporate finance, regulatory/compliance, and restructuring/insolvency. Schehr succeeds Ed Weil, who was recently appointed to Dykema’s Executive Board.
Based in the firm’s Detroit office, Schehr has spent the past seven years serving as Leader of Dykema’s Financial Services Litigation Practice Group. He has extensive experience representing clients in a variety of complex litigation matters, including financial services, shareholder, commercial, real estate, and health care disputes, and has successfully tried several business and commercial litigation matters in federal and state courts, as well as in arbitration.
“I look forward to leading our nationwide team of attorneys as we help our clients navigate the complex legal aspects of the financial services industry,” said Schehr. “Our team will continue to build on a strong reputation of excellent client service and unparalleled financial services industry expertise to deliver outstanding results for our clients.”
Schehr is past president of the Eastern District of Michigan Chapter of the Federal Bar Association (2014-15), is a Certified Commercial Arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and has been recognized by several publications for outstanding legal practice, including The Best Lawyers in America, Michigan Super Lawyers, dbusiness Magazine and Leading Lawyers Network.
With Schehr moving into the director role, Laura Baucus, Bloomfield Hills-based member of Dykema’s Litigation group, will take over as leader of Dykema’s Financial Services Litigation Practice Group.
Schehr, who is a Fellow in the American Bar Foundation and the Oakland Bar Foundation, received a J.D., cum laude, from Wayne State University and a B.A. from Michigan State University.
