Cooley Moot Court team ranks 25th in the nation

After sweeping the writing division awards and winning the oral portion during the New York Bar Association’s Moot Court Regional Competition in November, WMU-Cooley Law School Auburn Hills campus’ National Moot Court team finished in the top 25 at the New York City Bar Association and American Trial Lawyers National Moot Court Competition on Jan. 29-31.

While WMU-Cooley’s team did not win the competition, during the first round the law school’s national team, comprised of team members Troy Ayers, Josh Bemis, and Lauren Simasko, lost by one point, but scored 96 out of 100 in later rounds. During the final round, WMU-Cooley was bested by a two-point margin, finishing 25th out 174 teams.

“The team worked extremely hard and made WMU-Cooley Law School very proud,” said Professor Erika Breitfeld, who coached the team.

“The very best of the future legal profession participated in the finals,” said Professor Martha Moore, who also coaches the law school’s moot court teams. “It’s an honor to have our students among this elite group.”
