To the Editor:
Many of us are concerned over the justices of the United States Supreme Court ruling, by a vote of 6 to 3, that the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade was itself not constitutional.
We may see, one-by-one, states writing whimsical laws in every direction seeking to ban abortion or to allow it. I expect this turmoil to extend for quite some time.
I believe that thoughtful people, including those in state legislatures, will not push the nation’s states to reinstate the bloody mayhem of outright banning of all and any abortion.
Very few people – I believe – want back-alley abortions in which both mother and child were slaughtered.
I have faith in God and faith in the American people that sense and moderation will one day return to our land. May it be so.
