Viviano named to convention authority board

Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel has announced the appointment of former Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano to the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority (DRCFA).
Viviano is filling the seat previously held by Marilyn Lane, who served as Vice Chair of the DRCFA.

“Dave has a proven track record of leadership and public service, making him an exceptional addition for the DRCFA board,” said Hackel. "His deep understanding of the law and commitment to our community will strengthen the Authority's mission to drive economic growth and collaboration across the region."

A lifelong Macomb County resident, Viviano served as a justice on the Michigan Supreme Court. Prior to his tenure on the Supreme Court, Viviano served as chief judge of the Macomb County Circuit and Probate Courts as well as a lawyer in private legal practice.

“I look forward to this exciting opportunity to serve the community and strengthen our ties to the region,” said Viviano. “Working alongside Executive Hackel and our regional partners, I am committed to promoting the transformation of Huntington Place and ensuring it is an asset that unites our region.”

The DRCFA is responsible for overseeing operations at Huntington Place, the premier convention and event venue in Detroit and a critical economic driver for the region.

Lane served on the DRCFA since 2020.

“I want to thank Marilyn for her service on the Detroit Regional Convention Facility Authority,” said Hackel. “Her commitment to serve has ensured that Macomb County is aligned with the future success of this critical regional asset. The partnerships we have forged during her tenure will be the foundation for a stronger region.”

The DRCFA was established in 2009 to oversee the management and operations of Huntington Place (formerly Cobo Center).

The authority is committed to enhancing the region’s economic vitality by providing a world-class venue for conventions, exhibitions, and special events.
