A 60-year-old Detroit man has been arraigned in connection with a robbery and carjacking at a St. Clair Shores Kroger parking lot.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Eddie Lee Gaines attempted to rob a woman by taking her purse last Friday.

A customer intervened and struck him with her shopping bag, authorities said.

Gaines ran and entered into the driver’s seat of a running vehicle in the parking lot abd drove off with a male victim in the passenger seat, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Gaines demanded the male victim’s money and threatened to shoot him but the victim was eventually able to take the keys out of the ignition and stab Gaines with a fork.

Gaines fled to a nearby drug store where he was apprehended by St. Clair Shores police officers.

Gaines has been charged with carjacking, unlawful imprisonment and unarmed robbery.

He was arraigned Monday and faces a probable cause hearing on March 4.
