NAPD presents virtual conference


The National Association for Public Defense will present its 5th annual “Rise. Resist. Represent. Virtual Conference” on Thursday and Friday, March 20-21.

There will be skills training as well as opportunities to explore innovations, systemic litigation and development research projects.  

Speakers include Wayne State University Law School Assistant Clinical Prof. Daniel Ellman and Kristin Lavoy, assistant assigned counsel coordinator, Wayne County Indigent defense attorney, Neighborhood Defender Service of Detroit.

Cost is $125.

Webinar looks at Rapid DNA’s
impact on forensic cases


The Prosecuting Attorney Association of Michigan’s Violence Against Women Project will present a lunchtime webinar on “Rapid DNA: Understanding its Role and Impact on Forensic Cases in Michigan” Wednesday, March 26, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.

The webinar will feature Katherine Merideth and Scott Bruski, forensic scientists from the Michigan State Police Biology Unit.

This presentation will provide an overview of Rapid DNA, including its function, current applications, relationship to CODIS, and its impact on forensic biology cases in Michigan.

This event is open exclusively to prosecutors, prosecutor's office advocates, and law enforcement officers.

‘Brady and Youngblood’ topic
of online discussion


The State Appellate Defender Office’s Criminal Defense Resource Center along with the West Michigan Regional Investigator Association will continue their 2025 Trainings for Defense Investigators with a look at “Brady and Youngblood” online Tuesday, April 3, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Speaking at the webinar will be Kristyna N. Nunzio of The Nunzio Law Firm PC.  She earned her law degree from Cooley Law School and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a specialization in cognitive science from Michigan State University.
