Judges discuss the power of peer coaching in webinar June 9


The National Center for State Courts will present a webinar on “Unlocking Greatness: How Coaching Can Transform the Judiciary” Monday, June 9, from 3 to 4 p.m. via Zoom.

Judicial leaders and coaching experts will explore how peer coaching is transforming the judiciary from the inside out.  This session will highlight success stories from judges in three different jurisdictions who have experienced the power of peer coaching firsthand.

Speaking at the webinar will be:

• Judge Charles Clay III, Superior Court of Los Angeles County, Calif.

• Judge Natalie Damgaard, Second Judicial Circuit, South Dakota Unified Judicial System

• Judge Jeffrey Smith, Spokane County (Wash.) District Court, and past president, District & Municipal Court Judges' Association

• Moderator Alecia Burke, senior court management consultant, NCSC

• Moderator Kristen Trebil-Halbersma, managing director, NCSC

Volunteer opportunity offered by ALA on Belle Isle


The Association of Legal Administrators, Metropolitan Detroit Chapter, will conduct a  volunteer opportunity for a “Belle Isle Park Cleanup” on Saturday, June 21, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at 2 Inselruhe Ave. on Belle Isle.

Volunteers will come together and make Belle Isle a cleaner, greener place.  Friends and family of all ages are welcome to join. Volunteers can come and go any time as they please. The event will take place rain or shine and hats, closed-toed shoes, sunscreen, and bug spray are recommended. Gloves, garbage bags, water, and snacks will be provided.  Parking is available in front of the Belle Isle Aquarium.

‘Brain Science in Youth Defense’ discussed online
The State Appellate Defender Office and the Criminal Defense Resource Center will present a webinar on “Using Adolescent and Emerging Adult Brain Science in Youth Defense” Tuesday, June 17, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.  
Speaking at the webinar will be forensic psychologist Dr. Carol Holden.
