Some minor challenges combined with large equipment additions and time consuming renovation projects has pushed the anticipated opening of Bowman’s BBQ And Meat Market at the old Sinclair’s Market building in Climax, to September.
Frank and Sue Bowman of Climax, purchased the old Sinclair’s Market store from Mark and Ann Sinclair in January, 2015 and immediately started the lengthy process of renovating the store to tailor their vision of offering multiple services under one roof.
Besides operating their catering business out of the location, the Bowman’s plan to have a retail store, selling many basic grocery items, a meat market featuring Bowman’s processed meats, a deli area, a bar where beer and wine will be available to enjoy, and an ice cream parlor, featuring 16 flavors of hand dipped ice cream along with shakes.
Climax Township Board Reviews 2035 Master Plan Draft
The Climax Township Board unanimously approved a motion to send a notice of intent to plan the 2035-year master plan with inclusion of board recommended additions to any township, village, or city located within or contiguous to Climax Township where there is no planning commission, the County Planning Commission, railroads and public utilities and any governmental entity registered with the township at its regular meeting Tuesday.
There is little change in the 2035 Master Plan draft, however some notable proposed changes are included.
Planning Commission Chairman Dixon Brubaker said one change on the proposed draft map included changing a small section of land near the railroad tracks in the town of Scotts that was labeled residential to non-residential.
He adds the master plan draft notes a recreational area near Lefevre Lake is no longer in existence.
Some additional open space areas were added to the master plan draft that follows low lying areas such as wetlands that cannot be built on.
There was also language in the proposed master plan draft that calls for connecting a bike trail from the Climax Village Park to Cold Brook County Park with the Township and Climax Village Council working together if the interest and funding was present. Included in the bike trail item is discussion of making the road wider in the village or township when connecting two bike trails with a lane being designated for bikes only.

C-S Band Director Jennifer Nofs Leaving
The unexpected departure of band director Jennifer Nofs came as an unfortunate surprise to the Climax-Scotts school system. Miss Nofs has been a part of the C-S Schools instructional staff since she was an intern teacher here, under the supervision of former band director, Diane Stoddard, three years ago. During the past two years as band director, Miss Nofs has been carrying on a tradition of excellence that far exceeds what is usually considered normal for a school band program in a district of this size.

Only the fine patronage at these games plus the fine playing facilities have enabled Battle Creek authorities to book several of the regular league games during the year, thus eliminating the frequent complaint about exhibition games that the competing teams do not put forth their best efforts.
