Wayne County executive to receive Archer Award
The coveted honor will be presented by the Detroit Bar Association Foundation at a special gala from 5-8 p.m. at the Detroit Yacht Club. Charlie Langton, broadcast anchor at WJBK FOX 2 in Detroit and an attorney, will emcee the event.
Proceeds from the event, which is named in honor of former Detroit Mayor Dennis Archer, will benefit the Foundation’s free legal aid clinics and community outreach programs. Tickets to the gala are $170 per person. For more information, contact Darlene Trudell at (248) 408-6919 or dtrudell@detroitlawyer.org.
“For more than two decades, the Detroit Bar Association Foundation has presented the Dennis W. Archer Public Service Award to a member of our profession whose commitment to public service goes above and beyond the call of duty,” said a spokesperson for the DBAF. “Since 2003, this award has been reserved for the best of the best of Michigan’s legal profession—extraordinary lawyers and judges who have established careers dedicated to the betterment of both our profession and our community.”
Among the list of previous honorees are former Governor Jennifer Granholm, the late U.S. Senator Carl Levin, the late U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Damon Keith, former Michigan Supreme Court Chief Justice Maura Corrigan, Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, and Wayne County Chief Circuit Judge Patricia Perez Fresard, the 2024 recipient.
Evans has served as Wayne County Executive since 2015. He formerly served as Wayne County Sheriff from 2003-09, and also has held roles as Chief of Staff of the Wayne County Commission, Assistant County Executive, and Chief of Special Operations of the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office.
An alumnus of Madonna University, Evans earned his master’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Detroit and his juris doctor from Detroit College of Law.
