Free virtual wellness event to offer prevention strategies for various types of burnout Oct. 10


The State Bar of Michigan will offer a free virtual wellness event titled “From Burnout to Breakthrough: Resilience Tools for Legal Professionals” featuring Karissa Wallace on Friday, October 10, at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom .

The 90-minute event will offer information and tools that can reduce stress, avoid burnout, and ultimately lead to increased performance and competency in the practice of law. By the end of the event, attendees will be able to:

• Identify the core symptoms of burnout so you can recognize it in yourself and others.

• Understand the various types of burnout and the specific strategies that support each type.

• Understand how conscious breath control directly influences your nervous system.

• Practice breathwork techniques for immediate calm in high-pressure situations.

• Develop strategies to integrate breathwork into your daily legal practice to reduce anxiety and enhance focus.

Karissa Wallace is a well-being coach, teacher, and speaker. She's also a corporate lawyer who has experienced burnout. She became a well-being coach to help legal professionals avoid the common burnout traps, helping them grow from just surviving in their careers to thriving. Using the latest science and her own experience, she highlights the importance of career wellbeing and provides actionable tools for stress management mastery.

Association hosts ‘State of the Court Luncheon’ Oct. 15


The Eastern District of Michigan Bar Association will kick off its Luncheon Series with the annual “State of the Court Luncheon” on Wednesday, October 15, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Westin Book Cadillac, 1114 Washington Blvd. in Detroit

This luncheon will welcome new U.S. District Court Chief Judge Stephen J. Murphy III, Eastern District of Michigan, as he reports on the State of the Court.  Members of the bench, colleagues, and around 70 local firms are expected to attend.
