The Maura D. Corrigan Foster Family Award honors foster parents who have made exceptional contributions to the well-being of Michigan’s children. Named after former Chief Justice Maura D. Corrigan, who championed significant reforms to the state’s adoption process, the award recognizes families who provide safe, stable, and loving homes for children in the foster care system.
“Foster parents open their homes and hearts to children who need them most, and this award celebrates their extraordinary commitment,” said Chief Justice Megan K. Cavanagh. “Their dedication inspires us and strengthens communities across the state.”
The Daniel J. Wright Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding dedication to serving Michigan’s children and families. Open to attorneys, judges, caseworkers, court staff, agency employees, nonprofit staff, and others, the award honors those with at least 10 years of service who have made a lasting impact. The award is named in memory of the late Daniel J. Wright, who was a tireless advocate for children’s voices in court proceedings.
“Daniel’s legacy continues to guide us in ensuring that every child’s voice is heard in our courts and our foster care system,” said Justice Kimberly A. Thomas, MSC liaison on child welfare matters. “This award acknowledges those individuals whose service has consistently changed lives for the better.”
Award recipients will be honored at the 2025 Michigan Adoption Day celebration on Tuesday, November 25, at the Hall of Justice in Lansing.
