Volleyball team adjusting to changes
Still playing without middle blocker BreAnna Keene due to an ankle injury, the Rams lost a conference match to Delton-Kellogg in three sets September 30, 18-25, 18-25, 21-25.
A knee injury to Lily Gilbert forced G-A coach Jonica Klimp to move Gilbert to libero, creating more changes on the court.
The G-A coach adds Gilbert had a strong game playing as libero for the first time, digging up 18 attacks and receiving the most serves.
“We are still trying to find our flow. Volleyball is a game of rhythm; when something is changed, the tempo is thrown off,” said the Lady Ram coach.
The conference loss is a big setback in the teams’ goal of winning the conference, however Klimp said the team is using the loss as motivation to get better.
The G-A coach adds sophomores Kayla Bortolussi, who had a team high nine kills, and Jeni Klimp, who had two aces, five kills, one dig, two blocks and one assist, are starting to fill their roles nicely with strong serving and taking over the net game.
Lexi Coburn added 20 assists.

G-A JVs idle
The Galesburg-Augusta JV football team did not see action against Saugatuck October 2 because Saugatuck did not have enough players.
The JVs took a 1-4 record into a October 9 home game against Delton-Kellogg. The Rams will then play at Coloma October 16 before closing out the season October 23 at home against South Haven.
Rams even record with 42 to 10 win
over Saugatuck
Last Friday the Galesburg-Augusta Rams scored two touchdowns in each of the first three quarters enroute to a convincing 42 to 10 win over Saugatuck before a large and enthusiastic homecoming crowd at Maskill Field.
G-A’s Tristan Jackson recovered an onside kick on the first play of the game giving G-A the ball at the Trailblazers 46 yard line.
On the second play Jonah Ranes raced 48 yards for the game’s first score. He added the extra points on a run and the Rams had an 8-0 lead in the first minute of play.
Saugatuck drove to the G-A 18 yard line. A chop block penalty pushed them back to their own 33 yard line.
A pass by Walton Bos was intercepted by Greg Buckner at the 10 yard line and he returned it to the G-A 45. A 47 yard end run by Ranes gave the Rams a first down at the Saugatuck 5 yard line. On fourth down Patrick Armock scored from the one and G-A held a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
After a 29 yard return set up the Trailblazers at their own 44 yard line they went on a 10 play drive that ended with a one yard plunge into the endzone by Jack Drummond. Dante Holley’s point after kick narrowed the Rams’ lead to 14-7.
It took just 5 plays for the Rams to drive 80 yards for their third score. A 32 yard reception by Cayden Allie gave G-A a first down at the Saugatuck 32 yard line. On the next play it was Buckner, after breaking a couple of tackles, flying down the sideline for the touchdown. He also scored the two point conversion on a run and the Rams were now up 22-7.
A short kickoff gave Saugatuck the ball at their own 39 yard line. Staying on the ground Saugatuck moved down to the G-A 13 yard line. Ranes sacked the quarterback on the next play.
An incomplete pass and a short run left the Trailblazers with a fourth and nine to go. They opted for a field goal try by Holley. He split the uprights from 31 yards out with 1:47 to play in the half.
G-A then brought out its passing game. Armock connected with Giovanni Evans for 16 yards, Cayden Allie for 13 yards, Ranes for 14 yards and with two seconds on the clock, CJ Bernard for 18 yards and a touchdown. The two minute drive covered 80 yards in 10 plays. The teams entered halftime with G-A holding a 28-10 lead.
The Rams wasted little time getting their first score of the second half. On the second play of the half Armock found Bernard wide open over the middle and they connected on a 66 yard scoring play.
The ensuing kickoff was botched by the Trailblazers and Konivan Tiffany recovered the ball giving the Rams possession at the 50 yard line. Seven plays later it was Evans scoring from the 4 yard line on a run and G-A now had a 42-10 lead midway through the third quarter.
The Trailblazers moved down to the G-A 8 yard line. A holding call pushed them back to the 18. Bos attempted a pass toward the goal line but it was intercepted by Dontrell Bowden at the two. The Rams were forced into a punting situation facing a fourth and 7 to go. Armock was given the option to punt or run if he thought there was a good chance of success. He took two or three steps as if he were going to punt, saw the defense was dropping back for the punt, and headed around right end for 16 yards and the first down.
G-A continued the drive going all the way to the Saugatuck 7 yard line where the drive stalled.
The Trailblazers were able to move out to their 49 yard line but also stalled giving the ball back to the Rams. G-A was able to run out the clock from there to secure their third win of 2025.
After giving up 151 yards rushing in the first half the G-A defense held Saugatuck to just 51 yards in the second half. Top defenders for the Rams were Dominic Corsi with 13 tackles, Ranes made 11, Bernard had 9 and Colton Robertson 6.
Ranes and Buckner each had 11 rushes for 118 and 81 yards respectively with the team piling up 288 yards. Armock finished 8 of 12 passing for 178 yards. Evans had 4 catches for 101 yards. Allie caught 2 passes for 45 yards to lead the receivers.
G-A (3-3) travels to Delton-Kellogg (1-5) for a 7:00 p.m. game with the Panthers on October 10.
