A former letterwinner for the men’s swimming and diving team at the University of Michigan, Grosse Pointe attorney Fritz Damm was honored October 3 as the 2025 recipient of the Ufer Award, an annual honor named after legendary U-M football broadcaster Bob Ufer, who also was a track star for the Wolverines. The award was presented at the Letterwinners M Club Fall Gala in the U-M Golf Course Clubhouse. The list of former winners of the award includes the likes of Bo Schembechler, Don Canham, Bill Martin, Lloyd Carr, Carol Hutchins, Red Berenson, and Stephen Ross. A former M Club President and lifelong ambassador for Michigan Athletics, Damm earned his U-M degree in 1964 before attending law school at Wayne State University. During a distinguished legal career, Damm served as president of the Transportation Lawyers Association, an organization he headed in 2001-02 and that he served as chair of the Membership Services and Recruiting Committee for 21 years before retiring last year.
