The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan will present the Traffic Safety Training Program Webinar “Intoxilyzer 9000 Training and Certification Concerns—What Officers and Prosecutors Need to Know” on Thursday, January 15, from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom.
The Intoxilyzer 9000 is Michigan’s newest weapon in the battle against impaired driving. It has now been widely disseminated and in use throughout the State. With the advent of this new instrument, the Michigan State Police Breath Alcohol Administrative Rules were adjusted and republished in May of 2023. These new administrative rules contain a number of changes with regard to the way officers are trained and become certified breath test operators.
This course will address some of those changes to the way officers are trained, certified, and even recertified to maintain their Class III breath operator status. Speaking at the webinar will be Sergeant Scott Tuttle, Michigan State Police Breath Alcohol Unit.
The webinar will cover the following topics:
• Changes to the Michigan State Police Training Division Administrative Rules.
• Topics Covered During Officer Training for the Intoxilyzer 9000.
• What Officers Must Go Through to Become Certified Class III Operators.
• The Recertification Requirements for Class III Operators.
This will be a 1-hour long presentation that will be suitable for law enforcement, who administer and conduct evidential breath tests, as well as the prosecutors and assistant prosecutors who must prepare these officers for court and seek to admit the results of these tests at trial.
