Public administrative hearing
scheduled by Supreme Court


The Michigan Supreme Court will hold a public administrative hearing on Wednesday, Jan. 14.  

There is one issue on the agenda :

2025-14 Proposed Amendment of MCR 8.115

Issue: Whether to adopt the proposed amendment of MCR 8.115 that would prohibit the civil arrest of a person while attending a court proceeding or having legal business in the courthouse.

To register to speak at the hearing, complete no later than Wednesday, Jan. 7 at 5 p.m. the registration form online at www.courts.michigan.gov/rules-administrative-orders-and-jury-instructions/public-administrative-hearings.

Looking at how to improve public safety
for Michigan youth


The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Juvenile Justice &?School Safety Training Project will present the webinar “Improving Public Safety and Outcomes for Youth in Michigan” on Wednesday, Jan. 7, from noon to 1:30 p.m. via Zoom.

This presentation will include information on how the mandatory screenings tools and assessments should be employed.

The featured speaker is Josh Weber, director of youth and juvenile justice with the Council of State Governments (CSG). He directs the CSG Justice Center’s juvenile justice program, which focuses on helping states use effective methods to reduce recidivism and improve outcomes for youth in contact with the juvenile justice system. 

There is no charge to attend but advance registration is required.

Adverse childhood experiences
discussed at NAPD webinar


The National Association for Public Defense (NAPD) will present a webinar on “Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs): A Call on Clinical Behavioral Health” on Monday, Jan. 12, from 1 to 2 p.m.

Designed for professionals working in clinical behavioral health, criminal justice, forensic psychological and legal, this training provides attendees with an overview of the ACEs research and its implications for justice-involved populations.
