Detroit man arraigned on charges related to fatal vehicle collision in Clinton Township

Macomb County authorities have announced that 26-year-old Torrance Irby of Detroit has been arraigned on charges related to fatal vehicle collision.

It is alleged that on Monday, Dec. 29, Irby was driving westbound in a Ram ProMaster on Metropolitan Parkway in Clinton Township.

Just east of Groesbeck Highway, Irby struck a Ford Mustang, propelling it into the rear of a Ford Transit Connect van. It is further alleged that Irby fled the scene on foot.

He was apprehended a short time later.

The driver of the Ford Mustang, 27-year-old El Verson Mitchell of Ann Arbor, was transported to McClaren Macomb Hospital and ultimately pronounced deceased.

Irby was arraigned Friday before Magistrate Ryan Zemke at the 41B District Court in Clinton Township.

Irby was charged with the following:

• Operating While Intoxicated Causing Death, a 15-year felony, and

• Failure to Stop at the Scene of Accident Resulting in Serious Impairment or Death, a 5-year felony.

Zemke set Irby’s bond at $250,000 cash/surety and scheduled a probable cause conference for Jan. 12.
