Five wrestlers place at two tournaments
Malcolm Smith (215-pound weight class) placed third at the highly competitive Hudson Super Dual 16 Tournament.
Tyler Bradley (113) placed first, Nate Arnett (126) placed third, and Cole Birkam (285) and Deans Parks (150) both placed fourth at the Marcellus Tournament.
Smith and Cooper Dinse (285) were the only Panthers who competed at the Hudson tournament.
Smith (215) earned the third place finish with three pins, losing his only match by an 11-5 decision.
Dinse (285) was 2-2 with two pins.
Adrian Madison won the tournament with 111 points.
C-S had eight wrestlers compete at the Marcellus Tournament where the team finished in 9th place.
Tyler Bradley’s first place finish came as a result of a 2-0 record. He claimed a 4-2 decision and a 17-0 technical fall decision.
Nate Arnett placed third with a 5-1 record. He won three matches by pins, one by a technical fall and another by a 11-0 major decision.
Cole Birkam (285), placed fourth with a 2-2 record earning one win by a pin and another by a 10-0 major decision.
Dean Parks (150) placed fourth with a 3-2 record. He won by a 13-9 and 16-11 decisions and by a pin in 2:38.
Jacques Porlier (138) did not place but was 2-2, winning two matches by pins.
Demarion Tayler (285) and Lincoln Bartholomew (120) also participated in the Marcellus Tournament and dropped both of their matches.
C-S placed 9th in the 19-team tournament with 68 points. Bangor, with 128.5 points, won the placed first.
Girls basketball team building momentum
The Climax-Scotts girls varsity basketball team entered a brief break in the schedule with momentum, capturing its third straight win January 13 in a 53-9 win over Bellevue at Bellevue January 13.
C-S, now 7-2, used strong defense in the win over the Broncos, holding the home team to single digits in all four quarters.
C-S held Bellevue scoreless in the first quarter and moved out to a 11-0 lead after one quarter.
The Lady Panthers held the Broncos to one basket and a free throw in the second quarter, extending the lead to 27-3 at halftime.
C-S enjoyed its biggest offensive quarter in the third frame, using a 19-point effort to make the score 46-7 at the end of three quarters.
Sophomore Kyla Etheridge, who was 5-for-7 shooting overall from the floor, led C-S in scoring with 13 points. Addy Reeves, Annabelle Edwards and Kendal Reitz each contributed eight points.
Reeves pulled down nine rebounds and Holly Talbert added five assists and seven steals.

JV boys basketball team improves to 8-1
The Climax-Scotts JV boys basketball team improved to 8-1 with a 53-38 win over Burr Oak January 15 at C-S High School and a 44-36 win over Bellevue January 13 at Bellevue.
C-S, behind eight points from Ashton Heighton, raced out to a 17-7 lead after one quarter against Burr Oak.
While Burr Oak pulled to within 26-17 at halftime, Heighton scored six of C-S’ nine points in the quarter.
C-S, behind eight points from Blake Wechsler including a pair of three-point baskets, enjoyed its largest quarter output of the game and took a 44-28 lead into the final stanza.
Wechsler finished with 17 points to lead C-S in scoring. Heighton added 14 points and Alexander Albarran chipped in with 12 points.

C-S Holds on for Win Over Bellevue
The Panthers outscored Bellevue 25-19 in the second half to record a 44-36 victory over the Broncos at Bellevue January 13.
The two teams were tied 11-11 after one quarter and C-S took a 19-17 lead into halftime. The Panthers stretched the lead to 37-30 after three quarters.
Ashton Heighton’s 15 points led C-S in scoring and Alexander Albarran added 12 points.

Comeback falls short for basketball team

After temporarily reversing a pattern coming back late only to fall short with a 60-38 win over Bellevue January 13, the Climax-Scotts boys varsity basketball team reverted back to battling back only to be defeated in a 56-53 loss to Burr Oak January 15 at C-S Jr./Sr. High School.
The Panthers, who faced a 42-37 deficit early in the fourth quarter, whittled the deficit to one point three times but could not over take the Bobcats.
A basket by Hunter LaSala with 18.4 seconds left in the game pulled C-S to within 54-53, however two free throws by Burr Oak’s Braxton Boyles with 8.8 seconds left stretched the Bobcat lead to 56-53.
Burr Oak had a foul to give and fouled C-S with 4.7 seconds left.
C-S, now 3-6, attempted a shot with 0.1 seconds left but it missed the mark, sending the Panthers to a close loss.
Burr Oak’s strong effort at the free throw line in the fourth quarter with an 8-for-10 performance, helped the Bobcats maintain the lead in the fourth quarter.
A basket by Hunter LaSala with 7:36 left in the third quarter tied the game 24-24, however C-S was unable to take a lead the rest of the game.
Burr Oak stretched the lead to seven points twice (31-24 and 34-27), but a basket by Liam LaSala with 0.1 seconds left in the quarter gave C-S momentum trailing by just three points, 40-37, after three quarters.
C-S took its last lead of the game (22-20) on a basket by Dane Sattler with 2:30 left in the second quarter and settled for a 24-22 deficit at halftime.
C-S closed the first quarter strong on baskets by Maddox Wyman and Liam LaSala for a 15-11 lead after one quarter.
Liam LaSala scored 12 points to go with eight rebounds to pace C-S. Maddox Wyman, with 11 points, and Dane Sattler, with 10 points, also reached double figures in scoring.

C-S Snaps 4-Game Losing Streak
The Panthers relied on a strong start and good first half defense to post a 60-38 win over Bellevue January 13 at Bellevue High School.
C-S snapped a four-game losing streak with the win.
The Panthers, behind 12 points from Hunter LaSala, strong defense by forcing seven turnovers, and holding Bellevue to just 20 percent shooting and five points, moved in front 18-5 after the first quarter.
C-S continued the strong defense in the second quarter, holding the Broncos to 23 percent (3-13) and forcing six turnovers. The Panthers limited the home team to just seven points in the second quarter, expanding the lead to 33-12 at halftime.
C-S, behind six points from Liam LaSala and 47 percent shooting from the floor, enjoyed a strong third quarter offensively, entering the final quarter with a 51-25 lead after three quarters.
C-S shot 42 percent (23-45) overall from the floor, including a 51 percent mark (23-45) from two-point line and a 2-for-14 performance from distance.
Liam LaSala finished with 13 points and nine rebounds, Hunter LaSala added 12 points and 12 rebounds, Dane Sattler pitched in with 10 points, four steals and seven assists and Nyle Sattler contributed nine points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists.
