‘Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow!’

By Jo Ramsdell

‘Tis mesmerizing to look through frosted glass panes as snow gently falls beyond.  Curled up in a comfy chair, background music filling the air, and the words echoing over and over, “Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!”

“Snowbirds” are folks who prefer going south for the winter, where it’s warm, and there is no snow. Some of us who choose to remain in the north actually like winter and appreciate its beauty.

The winter of 2025-2026 began like all the previous years.  The enchanting snow set the mood for the entire holiday season and generated merriment everywhere. Though there was not a white Christmas, January did not disappoint. Weather fronts came down from the Arctic and draped a blanket of white over everything in Michigan. It was an amazing sight.

Then, the temperatures plummeted into the single digits, above and below zero at night, and hovered mostly in the 20s by day.  What little snow that melted was quickly replaced by the next storm, and by early February, the love for the Winter Wonderland slowly faded. Like too much ice cream, after a while, enough is enough.

Day after day, the harsh weather impacted life at all levels. Family pantries were constantly being stocked, as cancellations occurred more often than not. Winter illnesses seemed to dominate many homes, and cabin fever was the worst of the lot. And all that people could think about was spring. Where was it hiding, and how long would we wait?

So yes, ‘tis mesmerizing to look through frosted glass panes as snow gently falls beyond.  Curled up in a comfy chair, background music filling the air, and the words echoing over and over, “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it S…” NO!

NO MORE SNOW!!! (Tee-hee!)
