Deborah A. Lujan
February 23, 1967 - February 9, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Deborah A. Lujan.
Deborah was a dedicated attorney who loved the practice of law and took great pride in following a similar career path as her late father, Joseph G. Lujan. She devoted most of her 33-year career to civil defense work and recently transitioned to a new firm to focus on plaintiff’s work. Deborah graduated from Albion College in 1989 and the Detroit College of Law (now the Michigan State University College of Law) in 1992.
She was a member of the Negligence Law, Labor and Employment Law, and Alternative Dispute Resolution sections of the State Bar of Michigan. Deborah was also active in the International Association of Defense Counsel, the Oakland County Bar Association and the Oakland County Bar Foundation Fellows. She served as a case evaluator for the Macomb, Oakland and Wayne County circuit courts. Committed to professional growth and service, she frequently spoke at legal programs and mentored young attorneys.
Deborah was recognized by her peers for her professional achievements. She was named multiple times to Best Lawyers in America, DBusiness Top Lawyers and Michigan Super Lawyers (2014-2025). Her honors also included the Michigan Association for Justice Respected Advocate Award (2022) and recognition among the Top 50 Women Michigan Super Lawyers (2024).
Although Deborah was deeply passionate about her legal career, her greatest joy was her daughter, Caitlin. She enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, playing tennis and walking her dog along the beaches of Saugatuck.
A celebration of Deborah’s life will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, at The Iroquois Club. Brief remarks will begin at approximately 5:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Deborah’s memory to Grace Centers of Hope, a cause close to the hearts of Deborah and her late father.
