The vacancy was created when the C-S Board of Education voted not to retain Tyler Langs as the athletic director and varsity football coach February 24.
Also the dean of students at C-S, Langs was placed on paid administrative leave October 24 in all three roles because C-S Superintendent Doug Newington said the school district received complaints regarding the current football coach.
An investigation followed and the school district allowed Langs to return only in the dean of students role February 17.
While Langs will not continue with the athletic director responsibilities the rest of the year, Katherine Wolf Broaddus, of the Thrun Law Firm that represents the C-S School District, told the board February 24 he will receive the remainder of his pay.
According to a new release from the C-S School District, Bell brings decades of experience in education, coaching, and leadership to the role. He recently retired from Gull Lake Community Schools after 21 years as a physical education teacher, working with students from Young Fives through fifth grade. Prior to his career in education, Bell spent nine years in the staffing industry as a Contracts and Branch Manager, gaining valuable leadership and organizational experience.
A graduate of Western Michigan University, Bell earned his degree in Physical Education with a coaching emphasis and a minor in Communications. Throughout his career, he has been deeply involved in athletics, coaching for more than 30 years at levels ranging from Little League through high school across multiple sports.
Bell’s commitment to students and education has also been recognized professionally. He was honored with the Partners in Education Teacher Award during the 2022–23 school year, recognizing his dedication to student growth and community partnerships.
“We are grateful to have someone with Tim’s experience step in to support our athletic programs,” district leadership shared. “This has been a time of transition, and his leadership will help provide support and guidance for our coaches and student-athletes as we move into the spring season.”
Outside of his professional work, Bell enjoys staying active and spending time with family. He has been running for the past decade, completing several half marathons and his first marathon in 2025. He was also a Junior Olympian in the sport of Speed Stacks. Bell and his wife have been married for 35 years and have three grown children, a son-in-law, and two grandsons. In his free time, he enjoys family time, golf, running, and traveling.
