All hands on deck for mock trial
The Macomb County
Bar Foundation (MCBF), in partnership with the Michigan Center for Civic
Education (MCCE), recently hosted a mock trial event for area high
school students at the Macomb County Circuit Court Building. Among those
on hand to see that everything ran smoothly were (left to rght): Maddie
Bennage, MCBF executive director; Farrah Ramdayal-Howard, MCBA
president; Barbara Thomas, MCCE mock trial coordinator; Ryan Zemke, 41B
District Court magistrate and MCBF director; Sherriee Detzler, MCBF
president; Brian Grant, MCBF past president; and Jen Smith, foundation
trustee and WLAM-Macomb president. The competition attracted 21 teams,
the largest turnout in the history of the event, with three schools
advancing to the state finals — Cardinal Mooney, Port Huron and Romeo.
